Job summary

Fauna Robotics, an Amazon company, is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer to build cloud services that connect robots to customer experiences and internal operations. You will build the cloud foundation and applications that scale as the fleet grows.

The ideal candidate has built distributed systems that connect physical devices to cloud services end to end and will own services from prototype through production with on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience.
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Experience working in a cloud based development and production environment such as AWS.
• Experience owning a service end to end: design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and incident response.

In this role, you will build the cloud foundation and applications that connect robots to customer experiences and internal operations as we scale.

The ideal candidate has built distributed systems that connect physical devices to cloud services end to end. They are comfortable building and operating the services they own from prototyping through launch and beyond. They make sound architectural tradeoffs across privacy, security, reliability, delivery speed, and cost when requirements are still evolving. They work effectively across robotics, product, and operations teams while remaining hands-on in design and implementation.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
• Experience working in a cloud based development and production environment such as AWS
• Experience owning a service end to end: design, implementation, deployment, monitoring, and incident response

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building backends for physical devices, where clients drop off the network and return with stale state.
• Experience with device or fleet connectivity at scale: MQTT, device identity and certificate management, offline-tolerant sync, or an IoT platform (AWS IoT Core, Greengrass, or equivalent).
• Experience with real-time telemetry ingestion and streaming (Kafka, Kinesis, or time-series stores).
• Experience with over-the-air update delivery and staged fleet rollouts.
• Experience securing connected devices: secure provisioning, secrets management, and data privacy.
• Experience with infrastructure as code and operational tooling (Terraform, CDK, Kubernetes).
• Experience in robotics, automotive, connected home, or another domain where software runs on hardware in the field.
