Are you passionate about building software systems that operate at massive scale and directly impact millions of customers? As a Software Development Engineer III at Amazon, you will lead the design, development, and delivery of complex software systems that solve challenging technical problems. You will work across the full software lifecycle — from defining product strategy to implementation, deployment, and maintenance — while guiding your team toward architectural decisions that balance performance, scalability, and long-term maintainability.

In this role, you will tackle problems where the technology strategy is not yet defined, navigating conflicting constraints to deliver solutions that are simple, extensible, and secure. Your technical judgment and collaborative approach will shape the direction of your team's software, and your code will set the standard that others follow. A day in the life

You might start your morning reviewing a technical design document from a teammate, offering feedback that strengthens the architecture before implementation begins. Later, you could be deep in code, building a critical component of a new service while applying generative artificial intelligence tools to accelerate your workflow. After lunch, you join a cross-team discussion to align on an interface contract that your systems depend on. You wrap up by pairing with a junior engineer on a tricky debugging session, turning it into a coaching moment.
