Job summary

Searchability is seeking a hands-on Senior Software Developer to join a small in-house team supporting a bespoke SQL Server-backed system with a Microsoft Access front end.

You’ll learn the platform from the people who built it, strengthen and extend it, and play a key part in shaping how it evolves as the business plans its next steps with hybrid working 2–3 days on-site.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience with SQL Server and T-SQL.
• Commercial experience with Microsoft Access and VBA.
• Confident working in a large, complex existing codebase.
• A pragmatic approach to legacy systems, improving what’s there rather than rewriting from scratch.
• Experience with other languages or platforms (e.g. C#/.NET, Python) would be a strong advantage.

Responsibilities

• Develop, support and enhance a complex SQL Server-backed system with a Microsoft Access front end
• Write and optimise T-SQL, including stored procedures, views and queries
• Maintain and extend Access/VBA code across a large existing codebase
• Build a deep understanding of the system, working closely with the Head of Systems and the wider team
• Contribute ideas on how the platform should be modernised over time
• Bring good development practice to the team, such as source control, documentation and testing
