Job summary

Thales in Austin, TX is seeking a Senior Software Developer to design, document, and implement solutions for our customers. You will work on standalone UI applications using Java with Eclipse RCP (JFace/JavaFX) and apply solid OO design.

Applicants should have software architecture experience, a strong grasp of design patterns and SOLID principles, and excellent communication to lead discussions, review peers’ code, and guide junior engineers in delivery and quality.

Qualifications

• College degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Mathematics.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience developing complex UI applications with Java and Eclipse RCP (JFace/JavaFX).
• Proficiency in Design Thinking and SOLID Object Oriented principles.
• Broad Software Design Patterns understanding and use.
• Hands-on knowledge of the Scrum development process and Continuous Integration practices and tools (Jira, Mercurial, Git, Jenkins).
• Experience with Test Driven Development and strong debugging skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver quality software components in an agile development process.
• Write use cases/user stories and assign them to the functional components as necessary.
• Provide technical expertise and support to other engineers and reporting to management.
• Must be able to create proofs-of-concepts as necessary to demonstrate new ideas/technologies and architectural concepts.
• Participate code reviews for compliance with the defined software architecture.
• Ensure the software implementation is in line with the proposed software architecture and recommended design patterns.
• Responsible for providing technical leadership to junior software engineers in the areas of software design and implementation.
• Comply with security guidelines and provide the required reporting to management.

Thales is looking for a Senior Software Developer who will work on designing, documenting and implementing solutions for Thales customers.

The candidate must have extensive knowledge of technologies related to standalone applications development. Experience in developing applications with Java, Eclipse RCP plugins, JFace/JavaFX is required.

Candidate must have experience in software architecture design, working knowledge and application of software design patterns and SOLID Object Oriented principles.

Candidate must also possess excellent communication skills that will help in the job of leading and facilitating discussions between stakeholders.

The Senior Software Developer is also performing peers code reviews and providing hands on guidance to the junior/intermediate members of the team.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Minimum Qualifications

• College degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Mathematics.
• 5 + years of hands‑on experience in development of complex UI applications with: Java and Eclipse RCP (JFace and JavaFX).
• Proficiency in Design Thinking, SOLID Object Oriented principles.
• Broad Software Design Patterns understanding and use.
• Hands‑on knowledge of the Scrum development process and Continuous Integration practices and tools (e.g. Jira, Mercurial, Git, Jenkins).
• Experience with Test Driven Development.
• Self‑motivated, critical thinker, able to dig into the problems with little supervision.
• Able to attention to details while fixing bugs or implementing feature enhancements.
• Very good knowledge of all phases of software development lifecycle: requirements analysis, design, implementation, code review, testing, and release.

The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between

Total Target Cash (TTC) 119,251.50 – 198,752.50 USD Annual
