Job Overview
We are seeking a Senior Software Configuration / Release Engineer to design, automate, and maintain cloud configuration and infrastructure management processes across AWS environments.
This role plays a key part in ensuring that cloud platforms are secure, compliant, highly available, and well-governed through the implementation of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automated patching, backup management, and certificate governance.
The engineer will collaborate closely with DevOps, Security, and Infrastructure teams to deliver stable and reliable statewide services.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Configuration & Infrastructure Automation
- Design, implement, and maintain configuration management processes, policies, and standards for AWS environments.
- Develop and manage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to automate provisioning and lifecycle management of AWS resources.
- Provision and maintain AWS services including:
- EC2
- S3
- RDS
- IAM
- ACM
- Ensure configuration consistency across Dev, Test, Stage, and Production environments.
- Optimize AWS infrastructure for security, scalability, and reliability.
Release Engineering & AWS DevOps
- Support and maintain CI/CD pipelines using AWS Code Suite:
- CodeCommit
- CodeBuild
- CodeDeploy
- CodePipeline
- Work with DevOps teams to manage:
- Application releases
- Infrastructure deployments
- Rollbacks and configuration updates
- Environment readiness
Backup, Patching & Compliance
- Design and implement automated backup solutions across AWS services.
- Ensure data protection, disaster recovery readiness, and compliance with retention policies.
- Implement automated patch management workflows for cloud infrastructure.
- Conduct periodic audits covering:
- Configuration standards
- Patch levels
- Backup integrity
- Security compliance
- Identify risks and recommend improvements.
Security & Certificate Management
- Manage lifecycle of SSL/TLS certificates including:
- Installation
- Renewal
- Rotation
- Validation
- Maintain secure communication across AWS services.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal security standards.
Documentation, Governance & Knowledge Sharing
- Maintain documentation for:
- Infrastructure architecture
- Terraform modules
- Configuration baselinesEnvironment changes
- Provide guidance and training to team members on:
- Terraform best practices
- AWS infrastructure management
- Backup strategies
- Patch automation
- Certificate management

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- (or equivalent professional experience)
- 8+ years of configuration management or infrastructure engineering experience
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)
- AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, ACM)
- Experience implementing cloud backup solutions
- Experience designing automated patching workflows
- Expertise in SSL/TLS certificate management and security best practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Scripting experience such as:
- Python
- Bash
- PowerShell
- AWS Certifications (AWS Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, etc.)
- Terraform Certification
- Experience working in State or Local Government environments
- Experience with vendor management or oversight
- Familiarity with Agile delivery tools
- Experience with Organizational Change Management (OCM)
