Senior Social Editor, New York Magazine

New York, NY

We are seeking a Senior Social Editor to manage New York Magazine’s flagship social accounts. You should have a strong grasp of the social landscape, its various platforms and audiences, and constantly evolving trends.

Who We Are

The Editorial team is at the core of everything New York Magazine does. Our six verticals and award-winning magazine strike the perfect balance of content that’s smart and funny so that our readers know everything they need to navigate urban life and the fast-moving culture, whether that’s politics, culture, food, shopping, or style trends. Editors aim to create stories and magazine events that are sharp, provocative, memorable, useful, and, at turns, both playful and serious.

New York Magazine obsessively chronicles the ideas, people, and cultural events that are forever reshaping our world. The New York brand includes the groundbreaking magazine New York, which is published biweekly in print, and six thriving verticals: Intelligencer, delivering national news and sharp commentary on politics, business, technology, and media; the Cut, covering the conversations that matter most to women today; Vulture, the premier destination for culture news, criticism, and service; the Strategist, dedicated to shopping the internet smartly; Curbed, covering cities and city life; and Grub Street, home to food news and authoritative restaurant criticism.

New York Magazine is part of Vox Media, the leading modern media company. We guide our audience from discovery to obsession. We inspire essential conversations about what’s now, what’s next, and what’s possible.

As a community of journalists and storytellers, business professionals, creators and technologists, we believe it is a moral and business imperative to amplify voices: to cultivate diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our organization and media. • Participate in social conversations in service of making our accounts feel relevant and timely.
  • Work under direction of Editorial Director of Audience to refine strategy across accounts and closely monitor performance and identify new potential audiences we should reach.
  • Pitch and execute quick turnaround platform-first ideas and franchises as bandwidth allows.
  • Experiment with, and craft best practices for, new and emerging digital spaces as assigned.
  • Collaborate with a team of audience editors to coordinate on posting strategy and framing for different audiences and accounts.
  • Collaborate and deliver on regular reporting and insights that can help inform assigning, packaging, and larger audience strategy.
  • Be flexible to the demands of a newsroom schedule. This role will require working some nights and/or weekends, in response to the news cycle.
  • Help manage other accounts and platforms as needed, and take on other responsibilities as assigned.

Who You Are

  • Strong writing and editing skills, impeccable attention to detail, and an intolerance for errors
  • Prior experience growing an audience, preferably on a social platform
  • Strong editorial and news judgment
  • A sharp sense of humor
  • Proficiency in Adobe Suite and Figma
  • Strong understanding of analytics and social media trends across platforms
