Job summary

Northwood Space is hiring a Surface-Mount Technology (SMT) Technician to own the setup, programming, and performance of our SMT line across production and NPI builds, delivering high-reliability electronics for space missions. This role ensures prints, placements, reflow, and inspections run at peak performance.

You will work with Engineering to turn new designs into repeatable, high-yield builds, perform preventive maintenance, and uphold IPC-A-610 standards while on-site five days a week in

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years SMT electronics manufacturing experience.
• Hands-on experience setting up SMT equipment (printer, pick-and-place, reflow, inspection).
• Experience programming or editing SMT programs for placement or inspection equipment.
• Experience building travelers, BOMs, work instructions and assembly drawings.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate SMT equipment including printers, pick-and-place, reflow, SPI, AOI and X-ray per work instructions.
• Create, debug and optimize programs for placement, printing, SPI, AOI and X-ray.
• Configure process parameters such as nozzle, conveyor speeds, print settings and reflow profiles.
• Perform preventive maintenance and diagnostics; partner with Engineering to resolve issues.
• Inspect solder quality using microscopes and AOI/X-ray per IPC-A-610; document defects.
• Support production and NPI builds; drive continuous improvement of SOPs.
