We're hiring a Senior Accountant who is ready to grow into a Tax & Accounting Manager. This position is remote (Idaho-based preferred), and ideal for someone who can own a portfolio of small business clients, review and support team deliverables, and grow into a leadership position in a supportive, structured firm. Our ideal candidate is a licensed CPA or Enrolled Agent with strong QuickBooks Online skills and at least 5 years of experience. Responsibilities
- Manage a set of small business clients using QBO
- Review work of staff accountants for accuracy, completeness, and consistency
- Coach and support staff to ensure monthly accounting tasks are performed correctly
- Lead monthly close process and deliver accurate financial reports
- Communicate monthly with clients to explain financial performance and tax considerations
- Prepare and review business and individual tax returns (1120S, 1040 with Schedule C, etc.)
- Conduct annual tax planning and prepare quarterly tax estimates
- Troubleshoot accounting challenges and use sound judgment to resolve them
- Follow and help improve documented workflows
- Share knowledge with the team and contribute to Spark’s collaborative culture
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and process improvement sessions
- Participate in rotating afternoon coverage through 5 PM, as part of a shared team schedule
What Success Looks Like
- You confidently manage your own set of small business clients across a variety of industries
- You ensure that books are accurate, complete, and reconciled monthly
- You collaborate closely with teammates and review accounting work with care
- You communicate clearly with clients about their finances and taxes
- You help build Spark’s client-first, process-driven culture
- Within 12–18 months, you’re ready to step into a leadership role by managing a small section of clients and taking full ownership of their accounting and tax needs
Qualifications
- Must reside in the U.S.; Idaho preferred
- CPA, CPA Candidate, or Enrolled Agent
- QuickBooks Online Certification
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting OR equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in small or mid-sized firm environments, including managing multiple clients, month-end close and reconciliations, payroll and sales tax filings, tax return prep (business and individual), reviewing work, and providing feedback
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Organized and proactive with great attention to detail
- Team-oriented and easygoing—comfortable working in a growing firm where processes evolve and support is key
- Willing to ask questions, learn, and help the team succeed
- Comfortable with cloud tools and ongoing tech learning
Compensation: $75,000 - $95,000 yearly
