Job summary

onX is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to build and maintain infrastructure enabling developers to ship reliably at scale. You will manage the infrastructure platform, deployment automation, and observability through infrastructure-as-code, keeping systems reliable and performant for millions of outdoor enthusiasts.

The role reports to the Principal Site Reliability Engineer and requires 5+ years of experience with 3+ in production, plus strong Kubernetes, networking, and cloud experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years experience with at least 3+ years in production systems.
• Strong interest and experience with Kubernetes, networking, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Experience with Terraform/OpenTofu and at least one major cloud platform.
• Ability to evaluate technologies based on merit, stability, performance and debuggability.
• Hands-on experience with multiple datastores (SQL, NoSQL, object storage) and scalability needs.
• Solid CS foundation and ownership mindset.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, monitor and maintain highly available systems using Terraform, GCP, and Kubernetes.
• Maintain and extend a large Terraform codebase.
• Analyze systems and make perf/availability/cost optimization recommendations.
• Automate manual systems to minimize toil.
• Develop integrations with monitoring/alerting systems (Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, etc.).
• Drive incident response best practices and participate in on-call rotation.
• Collaborate on architectural decisions for services and initiatives.
