Job summary

Intel Corporation’s Silicon Photonics team in Albuquerque is seeking a Silicon Photonics Component Design Engineer to advance photonic devices for high-speed optical interconnects. You will design, simulate, and validate lasers, modulators, detectors, and waveguides; collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across process development and manufacturing to push silicon photonics technology forward.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master with applicable experience in silicon photonic device design, simulation, or characterization.
• Experience with photonic design/simulation tools and device testing.
• Experience with cross-functional engineering projects.

Responsibilities

• Design, simulate, and support development of photonic components (lasers, modulators, detectors, passive devices, waveguides).
• Contribute to PIC design and architecture evaluations.
• Perform simulations, tolerance studies, and design evaluations to improve performance and manufacturability.
• Support test chip execution including layout coordination and tape-out preparation.
• Analyze characterization data to identify performance trends and root causes.
• Contribute to photonic device models, workflows, and automation tools.
• Evaluate emerging photonic technologies and contribute to IP development.
