Job summary

Gregory Poole Equipment Company in Leland, NC is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Technician with six years of experience to service and repair construction equipment. Responsibilities

  • Check equipment and PPE compliance and prepare duties.
  • Troubleshoot and repair construction equipment using manuals and diagrams.
  • Use lift trucks, cranes, and tools to move and assemble parts.
  • Enter data into record systems and maintain repair logs.
  • Perform engine, powertrain, hydraulic, and electrical repairs across model lines.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair equipment with safety and quality in mind.

Primary Function
  • Check the equipment and supplies required to perform the work scheduled, comply with PPE requirements, and otherwise prepare for duties.
  • Use manuals, repair manuals, parts manuals, and parts diagrams to perform independent troubleshooting and repair of construction equipment.
  • Use lift trucks, overhead cranes, and other aids to lift or move parts into position for repair.
  • Use hand & power tools to remove, install, replace, rebuild, repair, and test parts/equipment on construction equipment.
  • Be proficient at using resources and computers to reference parts, obtain information about parts, and enter data into record systems.
  • Use tools to disassemble/reassemble parts or equipment; clean parts with rags, cleaners, power washer; use test equipment to make diagnostic checks; and control powered equipment or tools to make repairs.
  • Climb up onto, under, and into vehicles to gain access to all parts of the vehicle.
  • Use overhead hoists, lift devices, forklifts, and other aids to move items off the vehicle (tracks, idler wheels, blades, etc.) and then move parts to locations for disassembly, repair, and return to the vehicle for reassembly.
  • Proficient at performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and repair of engines, power trains, hydraulic, and electrical components at an advanced level on numerous model lines.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Must have a high school education or GED.

Work Experience

  • Requires six years of experience with at least two years of experience on Cat equipment or other similar equipment.
  • Must be proficient in at least four mechanical systems (e.g., transmissions, engines, hydraulics, etc.) for numerous model lines.

Physical

  • Must be able to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend, climb onto and underneath various equipment to perform diagnosis and repairs.
  • Must be able to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports.
  • Must be able to routinely and physically lift/position various parts to perform repairs/service and manually handle parts up to 112 pounds, as well as use mechanical hoists for heavier parts.

Other

  • Must be able to effectively write repair activities on customer work orders.
  • Must have cognitive reasoning and problem‑solving skills to apply knowledge, written information, and verbal instructions in repairing/servicing unusual and/or unknown technical equipment operational problems.
  • Should have exposure to PC‑based equipment and parts information.
  • Can work independently with minimal supervision; ability to effectively communicate with others, provide training to other technicians, assign work, and promote good customer service and resolve problems.
