Job summary

General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego seeks a senior design specialist to coordinate CAD component modeling for 3D ship design. You will translate vendor-provided dimensions into accurate modeled representations and collaborate with design teams across disciplines.

The role requires strong knowledge of ship design requirements for metal outfitting, HVAC, piping, machinery and mechanical systems, plus the ability to plan budgets and schedules for design support tasks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Associate CAD degree required or equivalent experience.
• 16 years maritime experience preferred in the absence of formal education.
• Strong CAD/PC application knowledge, including AVEVA tools.
• Ability to read vendor drawings and translate dimensions into models.

Responsibilities

• Provides cross-organizational assessment of change concepts and impacts.
• Anticipates roadblocks and mitigates their impact on design and downstream teams.
• Develops and implements novel solutions to complex problems.
• Acts as focal point with external SMEs for technical positions and decisions.
• Coordinates and facilitates working groups, driving decisions and actions.
• Mentors team members and develops others' technical and leadership skills.
• Identifies gaps/training needs and connects to adjacent disciplines.
• Serves as a reliable resource using design knowledge and negotiation skills.
• Recommends changes to requirements to meet intent and needs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
