Job summary

NASSCO is seeking an experienced senior design specialist to coordinate CAD component modeling in support of computer-based 3D ship design. The ideal candidate will translate vendor-provided dimensions into modeled representations for use in native 3D modeling software and ensure alignment with ship design requirements for Metal Outfitting, HVAC, Pipe, Machinery and Mechanical Systems.

Qualifications

• Experience reading and interpreting vendor information and translating dimensions into 3D CAD models
• Strong knowledge of ship design requirements for metal outfitting, HVAC, piping, machinery and mechanical systems
• Proficiency with PC and CAD applications; AVEVA Unified Engineering preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide cross-organizational assessment of change concepts and impacts to other disciplines
• Anticipate roadblocks and mitigate their impact across design and downstream
• Develop and implement solutions to complex problems
• Serve as focal point for discussing technical positions with external SMEs (ABS Principal Surveyors, Production Supervisors, Directors, Ship Design Managers)
• Coordinate and facilitate working groups, drive decisions and determine follow-on actions
• Mentor team members and develop others' technical and leadership skills
• Identify gaps and training needs for a discipline and impacts to adjacent disciplines
• Act as a reliable resource by applying design knowledge and negotiation skills
• Recommend changes to requirements to meet intent and needs
• Other responsibilities and duties as assigned
