Job summary

AbbVie in North Chicago, IL is seeking a skilled sheet metal fabricator to perform fabrication, installation, and layout work for ductwork and HVAC components. You will read drawings, fabricate parts, and assemble custom pieces to precise specifications.

Candidates should have a strong background in commercial/industrial sheet metal, an apprenticeship or equivalent training, and the ability to interpret mechanical diagrams and blueprints to complete installations and modifications safely and

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent and completion of an approved apprentice program or equivalent.
• 5-7 years of diverse commercial and industrial sheet metal experience.
• Ability to interpret all mechanical diagrams and construction blueprints.
• Ability to understand and complete all installations/modifications.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with applicable corporate and divisional policies.
• Fabricate custom strainers using perforated steel and expanded metal.
• Work with Plexiglass, Lexan, and metals including stainless steels and exotic alloys.
• Operate sheet metal fabrication machines and hand tools safely.
• Cut sheet metal to size and join metals with spot welders.
• Follow all safety requirements for assigned tasks.

Job Description

Performs demolition and construction work on various types of ductwork, installs HVAC equipment, fabricates ductwork and ductwork hangers and a wide range of custom and specialty items not available from vendors. Working from drawings and sketches, performs layout work and duplicates samples as required.b

Responsibilities

• Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
• Fabricates custom-made strainers using perforated steel, screening and expanded metal.
• Works with plastic materials such as Plexiglass and Lexan and with all types of metals such as hot and cold-rolled steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel, aluminum and magnesium as well as exotic metals such as tantalum, copper, monel and hastelloy.
• Uses fabrication machines such as sheet metal shears, press brakes, hand brakes and lock formers.
• Cuts sheet metal to size by using reciprocating saws, sabre saws, hand and power shears and plasma cutters and joins metals together using spot welders.
• Complies with all applicable safety requirements for assigned task.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school education/equivalent and completion of an approved apprentice program or equivalent.
