Job description

Client Overview

Our client is a well-established financial services organization seeking a technically strong Senior Server Administrator to maintain and improve their core technology infrastructure. The organization values hands-on expertise, resourcefulness, independent problem-solving, and a proactive approach to supporting reliable IT operations.

Salary/Hourly Rate

$150k - $180k, with flexibility up to $190k for an exceptional candidate, plus potential discretionary bonus.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a hands-on Senior Server Administrator to manage, maintain, and enhance the company's IT infrastructure. This role focuses primarily on server administration and virtualization, with additional responsibilities spanning storage, networking, and occasional end-user support. The ideal candidate has direct experience building and configuring physical and virtual server environments, particularly VMware infrastructure. The Senior Server Administrator must be comfortable independently diagnosing complex technical issues, managing infrastructure projects, and stepping in wherever needed to keep systems reliable and efficient. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity for a resourceful technical professional who enjoys hands-on engineering and takes ownership of infrastructure operations rather than simply overseeing them. The Senior Server Administrator role prioritizes practical technical ability over a specific number of years of experience. Candidates should be prepared to discuss their direct experience building and configuring VMware environments, managing server and storage infrastructure, and independently resolving complex technical issues. This role is onsite 5 days a week for the first 3 months, with the potential to transition to 4 days onsite afterward. There is some flexibility in daily working hours.

Responsibilities Of The Senior Server Administrator

  • Support network infrastructure and resolve connectivity issues involving servers and other technology systems.
  • Provide occasional help desk and end-user technical support as business needs require.
  • Identify infrastructure risks, investigate root causes, and resolve technical issues independently.
  • Partner with IT leadership to maintain a secure, reliable, and efficient technology environment.
  • Assist with infrastructure upgrades, migrations, improvements, and ongoing maintenance initiatives.
  • Manage competing technical priorities while maintaining strong service quality and operational standards.

  • A proactive, hands-on approach to infrastructure maintenance, technical projects, and operational improvements.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a primarily on-site environment.
