Job summary

Travis County is seeking a Senior Security Officer to safeguard county facilities and protect employees and visitors. You will monitor activity, respond to incidents, and ensure doors, windows, and access points are secure.

The role emphasizes leadership, mentorship, and adherence to post orders and security protocols, with potential for shifts including nights and weekends, and opportunities to coordinate with emergency services as needed.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years of providing direct security services, including lead or supervisory experience in the public and/or private sector.
• Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.

Responsibilities

• Provides basic building security for County facilities during normal business hours or after hours and on weekends and holidays.
• Ensures doors and windows are locked and secured during non-business hours.
• Reports security violations and questionable activities.
• Monitors buildings for damages from flooding, equipment failure or vandalism.
• Performs duties in the absence of the Security Supervisor.
• Facilitates effective communications between the Security Supervisor and Security Officer, including information and intelligence-related data sharing.
• Provides mentorship, coaching and technical guidance to entry level Security Officer.
• Reviews, interprets and applies all County-wide post and patrol orders and security protocols, ensuring compliance and recommending updates when necessary.
• Responds to duress, fire, and security alarms and notifies emergency dispatch and other emergency personnel if appropriate.
• Conducts patrolling and post operations including following all orders as specified per assignment.
• Secures, manages, and screens entrance and county facilities against trespassing and illegal entry.
