Job summary

Trinity Health's St. Joseph's Health location seeks an experienced Senior Security Officer (Armed) for full-time evening shift (3:00pm–11:30pm) with weekend and holiday rotation. A $3,000 new-hire sign-on bonus is offered.

You will provide armed, uniformed security across SJH campuses and coordinate with law enforcement as needed. The role requires NY armed security license or active police status, a valid NYS driver's license, and substantial experience in healthcare/security.

Qualifications

• Valid NYS Armed Security Guard License (includes firearms training) or active NY police status at hire.
• Active police officers must obtain armed license and NYS pistol permit within 6 months of hire.
• DCJS Basic Course for Police Officers preferred.
• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred.
• Valid NYS Driver's License required.
• IAHSS Basic Security Certification due within 1 year of hire.
• FEMA IS-100c required within 90 days of hire.
• BLS Certification required upon hire or within 3 weeks.

Responsibilities

• Provide armed, uniformed security presence on SJH campuses.
• Assess threats and respond immediately to safeguard staff, patients, visitors.
• Mitigate offenses and document incidents for reporting to leadership.
• Coordinate with law enforcement based on threat assessment and events.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Security Supervisor, is responsible for the performance of all security and safety duties as assigned. Provide armed, uniformed Security presence throughout St. Joseph's Health (SJH) campuses. Senior Security Officers will assess threats, provide immediate response to, and mitigate offenses against public order, life and safety of colleagues, staff, patients, visitors and others on and within the buildings and grounds of SJH. Offenses or events requiring investigation and thorough reporting will be made and submitted to the Lead Security Officer and other SJH Leadership. Coordination with law enforcement agencies based on threat assessment and offenses. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

Valid State of New York Armed Security Guard License (includes firearms training and a valid NYS pistol permit) OR active police officer status (New York State) at time of hiring is required.

Active police officers must obtain armed security license and a NYS pistol permit within 6 months upon being hired.

Successful completion of the DCJS (division of criminal justice) Basic Course for Police Officers preferred.

High School Diploma/GED Certificate required. Associate degree preferred.

A valid NYS Drivers License is required.

IAHSS Basic Security Certification must be completed within one year of hire.

FEMA Emergency Management Institute courses must be completed within 90 days of hire - IS - 100c.

BLS Certification required upon hire or within 3 weeks of hire. .

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of five (5) years experience in any combination of the following: Armed Security Guard, Healthcare/ Hospital security or Law Enforcement (Police or Peace Officer). (5) Years Law Enforcement Experience (Police or Peace Officer) is preferred. Must successfully pass a Psychiatric evaluation prior to hire.

Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of the New York State Penal Law and Criminal Procedure Law.

Knowledge and understanding of the use of force continuum and it's application within a private security setting.

WORK ENVIRONMENTAL AND HAZARDS:

Frequent exposure to adverse working conditions such as noise, noxious odors, temperatures, hazardous materials, and communicable diseases. Routine or potential exposure to blood, body fluids, excretions, or secretions.
