Role Overview

As a Senior Security Engineer on our Detection Engineering team, you will develop detections to identify potentially malicious activity and support security incident investigations across the Fastly environment. We seek a candidate with foundations in security engineering, experience in incident response, and detection development. You will have the opportunity to mature our detection lifecycle, develop advanced detections, automate processes, and support security investigations.

Responsibilities
  • Develop detections and analytics to identify threats across cloud, corporate, and edge environments.
  • Investigate potential security threats and support incident response efforts.
  • Research, evaluate, implement, and maintain security tools such as EDR, SOAR, and SIEM.
  • Build custom tooling and automations to enhance detection and response processes.
  • Maintain incident response playbooks and documentation.
  • Conduct threat hunts to discover unknown malicious activities.
  • Participate in on-call rotations.
Qualifications
  • Experience with Splunk for threat investigation, detection development, and data normalization.
  • Knowledge of attacker TTPs and advanced threat investigation.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python, Ruby, Go, or Rust.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
  • Familiarity with security frameworks like MITRE ATT&CK and NIST CSF.
  • Experience with Linux administration, system hardening, and intrusion techniques.
Preferred Skills
  • Published research or speaking engagements on threat detection or incident response.
  • Development of security automation tools.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines for detection deployment.
  • Knowledge of CDN, edge cloud platforms, or Fastly products.
Work Environment

This role requires availability during core business hours and participation in an on-call rotation. Location options include New York, NY; San Francisco, CA; Denver, CO; or remote within the US. The role may involve travel.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $181,220 - $217,464, with potential participation in equity and bonus programs. Benefits include health insurance, family planning, mental health support, Employee Assistance Program, life and disability insurance, flexible vacation, paid sick leave, 401(k), employee stock purchase, and paid holidays.
