Job summary

Soteria is seeking a Senior Security Advisor – Lead Control Assessor to perform hands-on control testing and act as engagement lead for structured cybersecurity assessments. You will drive planning, execution, and quality assurance across multiple client engagements.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years in cybersecurity or IT audit, with 2+ years in leading assessments and strong communication skills to present findings to executives. Remote work with periodic travel is supported.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in cybersecurity, information security, IT audit, or risk/compliance.
• 2+ years leading or performing cybersecurity control assessments or IT audits, with responsibility for control testing and validation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
• Relevant professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, CRISC preferred.
• Proven experience testing and evaluating security controls aligned to NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5 and 800-53A Rev. 5.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience presenting results to executives/board.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute cybersecurity control assessments against a defined subset of key controls aligned to NIST SP 800-53 Rev. 5.
• Assess control implementation status using standardized criteria and validation methodologies.
• Test information systems using documentation review, system walk-throughs, and stakeholder interviews.
• Lead planning, kickoff, execution coordination, and closeout activities for assessment engagements.
• Coordinate assessment activities and task assignments across assessors to meet delivery timelines.
• Serve as primary point of contact for client stakeholders during engagements.
• Review and approve assessment narratives, findings, and control determinations.
• Ensure assessments are executed consistently across multiple clients for benchmarking.
