Job summary

General Motors’ Warren Tech Center is seeking a Technical Specialist – Advanced Seat Structures. This hybrid role requires on-site work at least three days per week and leads advanced seat architectures from concept to execution.

You will collaborate with AVD, BIW, Design, Manufacturing, and global regions to shape the seat structures roadmap, translate targets into concepts, and mentor engineers in advanced structure development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years post-graduation engineering experience, with automotive seat structures or related structural systems.
  • Proven track record developing seat structures from concept through launch.
  • Deep understanding of seat-to-vehicle packaging and BIW integration.
  • Proficiency in structural analysis (e.g., FEA, modal analysis) and translating results into design.
  • Strong knowledge of global seating safety/regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to operate independently on complex technical problems.
  • Experience with benchmarking and competitive analysis; translating insights into GM solutions.
  • Strong business acumen with cost/mass/investment trade studies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to influence across functions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of advanced front and rear seat structure architectures from concept to hand-off.
  • Translate vehicle targets into robust seat structure layouts and mechanism concepts.
  • Use CAE, packaging, and kinematic studies to assess load paths, stiffness, and comfort.
  • Capture advanced architecture enablers for reuse across programs and regions.
  • Benchmark seating structures and technologies to identify industry trends.
  • Collaborate with JIT suppliers and GM R&D to prototype new seat technologies.
  • Maintain and update the Advanced Seat Structures roadmap with regulatory and manufacturing constraints.
  • Define validation strategies for new architectures to meet safety requirements.
  • Promote reuse of components to reduce cost and complexity.
