Job summary

General Motors seeks a Senior Rear Seat Structure Design Release Engineer to own rear seat subsystems from concept to production. You will define requirements, lead design and integration, and drive robust execution with independent judgment and leadership.

Prior seating or body-structure experience across multiple launches is highly valued. The role requires strong collaboration with safety, CAE, manufacturing, and suppliers; you will also manage PDT activities, ICDs, and interface negotiations

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in product development, preferably with structural components or seating systems.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret 3D math data and review designs using tools such as Vis-Mock‑up or equivalent.
• Strong foundation in engineering fundamentals and mechanics with system-to-component design linkage.
• Ability to travel up to 15%.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and integration of rear seat structures for large vehicle programs.
• Own and develop SORs for rear seat structure subsystems, coordinating with safety, CAE, manufacturing and others.
• Lead design and technical reviews for rear seat structures to ensure safety and program targets.
• Define Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and negotiate interface agreements with interfacing systems.
• Lead the Product Development Team for assigned components, including timing, parts lists, DFMA considerations, issue tracking and risk mitigation.
• Conduct trade-off studies considering cost, mass, timing, manufacturability, safety and quality.
• Release production designs on time meeting commodity, regulatory and quality requirements.
• Ensure 100% design fidelity and readiness at each GVDP milestone through reviews.
• Act as primary technical interface to program teams, plants, suppliers and other stakeholders.
• Lead the launch of new vehicle programs for rear seat structure subsystems at assembly plants and supplier facilities.
• Drive focused problem-solving for cost, quality, safety, and warranty issues with permanent corrective actions.
