Job summary

Amazon DynamoDB's Seattle team seeks a Senior Software Development Engineer focusing on Persistence and the DynamoDB Storage Engine. You will own the on-disk storage layer that underpins customer data durability at planetary scale.

You will design storage representations, implement recovery and integrity checks, and guide write-ahead logs, compaction, and data lifecycle management. Mentoring is encouraged and long-term storage architecture will be shaped.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of programming in at least one language.
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Own the on-disk storage layer of the DynamoDB storage engine — the foundation upon which data durability rests.
• Design and implement optimal on-disk representations for various in-memory data structures balanced for read/write performance.
• Architect and evolve storage formats, compression strategies, and encoding schemes for fast retrieval.
• Build and maintain crash recovery, data integrity verification, and resilience to partial failure.
