Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. in West Point, PA is seeking a Senior Scientist to join the Vaccine Discovery Analytical Research team.

You will lead assay development and apply state-of-the-art analytical techniques to characterize vaccines across platforms, including protein and live virus vaccines. The role emphasizes collaboration in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary setting, with emphasis on technological innovation, data interpretation, and presenting findings to program teams.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master with 4+ years industry, OR Bachelor's with 6+ year experience in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Structural Biology or related field.
• In-depth knowledge of chemistry and separations (UPLC, HPLC, CE, electrophoresis).
• Experience with protein characterization and protein interactions (Electrophoresis, SPR, ITC, MALS).
• Ability to troubleshoot separation methodology issues.
• Independent analytical problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong verbal & written communication skills.
• Capable of multi-tasking and managing multiple projects.
• Motivated to learn new skills and take on new challenges with scientific curiosity.

Responsibilities

• Lead assay development and drive scientific contributions at program level.
• Engage with product teams to characterize vaccines supporting process and formulation development.
• Assist vaccine characterization and method transfers.
• Provide technical guidance to other scientists and evaluate new technologies.
• Drive innovations to influence industry trends and present findings clearly.
