Job summary

Scorpion Therapeutics seeks an on-site Automation Engineer to program and integrate lab robotics and liquid handling systems. You will optimize protocols, validate methods, and coordinate vendor support to minimize downtime while maintaining project timelines.

Ideal candidates have strong automation/engineering expertise across integration, robotics, software, and electromechanical solutions, with experience in regulated lab environments and collaboration with lab scientists.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Biotech/CS or equivalent
  • Advanced degree with hands-on robotics/automation experience preferred
  • Experience with GMP/regulated environments a plus

Responsibilities

  • Program and integrate lab instrumentation on-site
  • Develop/optimize liquid handling protocols and validate methods
  • Coordinate with vendors to support equipment and minimize downtime
  • Provide operations support and troubleshoot novel robotic platforms
  • Collaborate to resolve problems and maintain project timelines
  • Coach scientific partners transferring experiments to robotics platforms
  • Procure materials for assays and system builds
  • Install, test and validate automation platforms
  • Coordinate installation with Safety and Facilities
  • Improve processes and provide vendor directions for coordinated execution

Job description

Education/Minimum Requirement
  • BA/BS in Engineering, Biotechnology, Computer Science (or equivalent) with 7+ years; MS with 3+ years; or PhD with hands-on experience in a related field
Responsibilities
  • Program and integrate lab instrumentation (e.g., Beckman Coulter, Hamilton, Tecan)
  • Develop/optimize liquid handling protocols (Biomek/Hamilton/Tecan) and perform liquid class validation
  • Coordinate with vendors to support/service equipment and minimize downtime
  • Provide operations, troubleshooting, and optimization for novel robotic platforms
  • Collaborate to resolve unique problems; provide timely scientific support while maintaining project timelines
  • Empower/coach scientific partners transferring experiments to robotic platforms
  • Procure materials for assay execution and system builds
  • Develop and execute installation, testing, and validation procedures for automation platforms
  • Coordinate installation requirements with Safety and Facilities
  • Continuously improve processes/systems and provide vendor/supplier/facilities direction to ensure coordinated execution
Required Experience & Skills
  • Primarily in-the-lab; 100% on site
  • Strong automation/engineering expertise across integration, robotics, liquid handling, software, and electro-mechanical solutions
  • Relationship-building with site leaders and stakeholders; ability to prioritize and work independently
  • Experience with commercial lab software/equipment (e.g., Momentum, Green Button Go, Cellario, Beckman, Tecan, Hamilton, Brooks)
Preferred Experience & Skills
  • Pharma/biotech or lab experience; basic bench science; Microsoft languages (VB, Python, C#, SQL)
  • Regulated/clinical documentation experience (e.g., GxP); Laboratory Field Service experience
Required Skills
  • Biochemical & cell-based assays, detail-oriented, flow cytometry, ligand binding assays, LC-MS/mass spectrometry analysis, partnership strategy, teamwork
