Job summary

Uber is seeking a Data Scientist to refine questions, design experiments and build causal, data-driven models across the Fares platform. You will collaborate with product, engineering and operations to shape strategy and roadmaps, creating AI-enabled workflows and telling stories with data to leadership.

The role emphasizes strong quantitative skills, experimentation, and cross-team influence to drive Uber's fares product direction in fast-paced environments.

Qualifications

• Ph.D., M.S., or Bachelor's in CS, Statistics, Economics, ML or other quantitative field.
• 3+ years of industry experience as Applied/Data Scientist or equivalent.
• Experience with experiment design, exploratory data analysis, causal inference and model development.
• Proficient in SQL and a scripting language (Python or R).

About The Role

The Fares platform team powers the fares for all of Uber - that's all riders, earners and eaters across the Uber and Uber Eats app. With $190B+ in gross bookings processed by the fares platform annually, we solve high impact problems which are critical to Uber's success.

What The Candidate Will Do

• Refine ambiguous questions and generate data backed hypotheses through a deep understanding of the data, systems, customers and business.
• Use experiments and causal inference methods to validate the hypothesis and drive business goals critical to Uber's success.
• Act as a thought partner with cross-functional teams across various disciplines, including product, engineering, and operations, to drive product strategy.
• Influence the product roadmap for fares and several cross-organizational teams (like maps, matching, growth, UX, Ops).
• Build ML models to solve complex problems and create AI agents to automate data science workflows.
• Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical leadership to influence decisions and product direction.

Basic Qualifications

• Ph.D., M.S., or Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Economics, Machine Learning, or other quantitative fields.
• 3+ years of industry experience as an Applied or Data Scientist or equivalent.
• Experience with experiment design, exploratory data analysis, causal inference and model development.
• Proficient in both a data ETL language (e.g. SQL) and a scripting language (e.g. Python, R).

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of industry experience as an Applied or Data Scientist or equivalent.
• Experience using statistical methodologies in platform, marketplace or consumer domains.
• Demonstrated ability to leverage data and systems thinking for storytelling and root cause analysis.
• Excellent communication skills: able to lead initiatives across multiple areas and communicate findings with leadership.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $190,000 per year - USD $211,000 per year.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $190,000 per year - USD $211,000 per year.

For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $190,000 per year - USD $211,000 per year.

For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
