Job summary

MSD in Rahway, NJ is seeking a hands-on Senior Scientist for the Combination Product Characterization team. You will interrogate device platforms supporting our pipeline to identify risks and opportunities for improvement using analytical instruments, in silico modeling, and mechanical testing.

You will lead cross‑functional collaboration with QA, Analytical Sciences, CROs, and external vendors, deliver design verification strategies, and contribute to early design decisions for pre-filled

Qualifications

• Education requirement: B.S., M.S or Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering, Material Science or equivalent field.
• Minimum experience: Ph.D. with 4 years or MS with 6 years in design, engineering, and testing/test method development.
• Solid testing skills and ability to work independently in a lab.
• Strong background in optical imaging and mechanical testing including imaging, tensile/compression, surface characterization, X-ray CT, rheometry and microscopy.

Responsibilities

• Characterize device materials and functional properties to identify failure modes and improvement opportunities.
• Lead design and testing protocols for pre-filled syringe and auto injector platforms.
• Collaborate with QA, Analytical Sciences, CROs and external vendors to support program timelines.
• Communicate complex mechanical engineering concepts clearly across teams to enable decisions.
