Job summary

The Biologics Research Center (BRC) at Novartis Biomedical Research in San Diego, California is seeking a highly motivated scientist with expertise in recombinant adeno-associated virus (AAV) manufacturing to join the Cell & Gene Therapy unit.

This role supports the early-stage AAV gene therapy pipeline by assessing downstream manufacturability and developability of lead candidates, exploring purification methods, and developing improved platform processes for existing and novel capsids and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in biochemistry, chemical engineering, bioengineering, or related field with 5+ years experience.
• Hands-on experience with AKTA purification systems and downstream chromatography (affinity and ion-exchange).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, matrix environment and communicate science effectively.
• Experience designing experiments and transferring knowledge across teams.
• Desirable: experience in AAV gene therapy.

Responsibilities

• Perform purification processes including depth filtration, ultracentrifugation, AKTA chromatography, and TFF.
• Design and execute experiments for platform evaluation of next-generation capsids.
• Prepare protocols, reports, and electronic notebook documentation.
• Collaborate with upstream process development and analytical teams.
• Support project core team discussions and knowledge transfer to clinical translation.
• Other related duties as assigned.
