Motion Recruitment is seeking a Senior Scientific Data Engineer to design and deliver advanced data solutions for life sciences clients in the Cambridge area. This role blends hands-on development with technical leadership, solution design, and mentorship.

You will build scalable platforms, transform complex datasets, and create production‑ready data products that support R&D and manufacturing initiatives. Strong Python/SQL skills, data modeling, and stakeholder collaboration are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience building data products as a Data Engineer or related professional.
• 8+ years of hands-on experience with Python and SQL.
• Strong background in data modeling, data integration, and data pipeline development.
• Experience leading technical projects and coordinating timelines.
• Experience gathering and translating business requirements into technical solutions.
• Proven ability to manage multiple customer-facing implementations across cross-functional teams.
• Experience developing production-grade solutions with comprehensive testing strategies.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and implementation of scientific data engineering solutions.
• Collaborate with product managers and solution architects to define technical requirements.
• Build data models, integrations, and scalable data processing frameworks.
• Develop AI-assisted schemas and parsers for complex scientific datasets.
• Create reusable Python libraries and components to support product development.
• Build and maintain high-quality data pipelines with robust testing and validation.
• Develop data applications, reports, and dashboards for customer-facing use cases.
• Partner with engineering, analytics, and machine learning teams to deliver data products.
• Ensure solutions meet customer requirements and provide measurable business value.
• Drive improvements in engineering processes, tooling, and product quality.
• Lead technical design discussions and architecture reviews.
• Mentor and support junior members of the data engineering team.
• Help teams achieve delivery milestones and remove project roadblocks.
