Job summary

Calibr-Skaggs Institute for Innovative Medicines, a division of Scripps Research, is seeking a Science Writer II to craft grant proposals, write scientific content, and develop data-driven materials across cancer, neurology, and other programs. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject required. Master’s degree or PhD strongly preferred.
• Basic understanding of biology and chemistry with advanced knowledge in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related fields.
• 3+ years of professional academic research experience and/or demonstrated grant-writing experience.
• Ability to understand and assist a wide range of internal and external stakeholders and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Experience with AI-based writing and graphics tools.
• “Can do” attitude and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based writing culture.
• Position can be on site at Calibr in La Jolla, CA or remote; travel 3-4 times per year.

Responsibilities

• Work independently and with team members on specific projects.
• Attend meetings during Pacific time zone hours.
• Research, write, edit, and review grant proposals for diverse funding sources (NIH, NSF, DoD, etc.).
• Write, edit, and review supporting documents for grants during the pre-award process.
• Manage the scientific writing, review, and submission process for grant proposals.
• Coordinate with drug development teams to complete tasks and ensure accuracy.
• Develop slide presentations with data figures and graphics for non-grant funding opportunities.
