Job summary

The Quantitative Biosciences Institute (QBI) at UCSF is recruiting a Senior Science Writer and Editor for a part-time Writer Editor 4 position. The selected candidate will join a multidisciplinary team to promote QBI’s biomedical research portfolio and communicate scientific stories to broad audiences.

You will bring technical leadership, write and edit high-level materials, and develop innovative communication strategies for biology and health sciences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, biophysics or related area.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience writing and editing for academia.
• Highly independent and able to pitch story ideas, workshops & outreach exhibits, and creative science communication ventures.
• Expertise in writing, grammar, syntax, style and punctuation for academic audiences.
• Advanced knowledge of editorial style and publication guidelines for higher education in biology/health sciences.
• In-depth knowledge of publishing software, data analysis, image handling, figure development, and web production.

Responsibilities

• Researches, writes and edits high-level communications, publications, and reports.
• Promotes QBI’s biomedical research portfolio and communicates outcomes to broad audiences.
• Collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, writers and managers.
• Develops innovative communication strategies for complex scientific topics.
• Maintains audience-focused narratives for both targeted and broad audiences.
