Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Senior SCADA Engineer, EPC, to lead SCADA and PPC engineering for utility-scale PV and BESS projects. You will own end-to-end PPC implementation, define design standards, and coordinate with customers and field teams in a largely remote/hybrid role.

This position requires 6–8 years of experience in SCADA, programming (C/C++/Java/Python), and familiarity with Ignition or equivalent platforms, plus PLCs from major vendors.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in electrical, mechanical or energy engineering preferred.
  • 6-8 years of engineering experience in renewable energy or utility-scale projects.
  • Strong programming skills in C, C++, Java, Python, and Structured Text (IEC61131-3).
  • Advanced knowledge of Ignition SCADA or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience with Windows servers and relational databases.
  • Experience with PLC hardware (RTAC, CompactLogix, RX3i) and industrial automation protocols.
  • Knowledge of Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA/DA.
  • Ability to read and develop electrical, control, and power system diagrams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work with subcontractors and field personnel.
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and commissioning of SCADA and PPC for utility-scale PV and BESS projects.
  • Define and implement SCADA design standards and best practices.
  • Own end-to-end PPC implementation: programming, hardware/software integration, FAT and SAT.
  • Produce project documentation including SAT reports, narratives, device lists, and training material.
  • Provide expert technical support and act as escalation point for PPC/SCADA issues.
  • Mentor junior engineers through reviews and knowledge sharing.
  • Drive standardization and process improvements to reduce commissioning time.
  • Coordinate with customers and field technicians for on-site commissioning and installation support.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for system integration.
  • Provide status updates, risk assessments, and ensure on-time project delivery.
  • Promote a solution-oriented, team-first culture and adherence to NERC standards.
  • Support operations handoff and long-term system reliability; drive continuous improvement.

Job Description Summary

The Senior SCADA Engineer, EPC will lead and execute SCADA and PPC engineering workstreams for the design, development, and delivery of the SOLV OTS SCADA solution on utility‑scale PV and BESS projects.

This role can be fully remote or hybrid, with regular in-office presence in Bend, OR. Specific location details and expectations will be discussed during the interview process.

Position Responsibilities and Duties
  • Lead the development and commissioning of SCADA monitoring and control systems for utility-scale renewable energy projects, including Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Define and implement SCADA design standards and best practices aligned with company objectives.
  • Own end-to-end PPC implementation on assigned projects, including programming, hardware/software integration, factory acceptance testing, and site acceptance testing to meet ISO, utility, and customer requirements.
  • Generate and maintain project documentation including; SAT reports, plant control narratives, device points list, and training material while adhering to defined company standards.
  • Provide expert level technical support for diverse SCADA equipment configurations.
  • Serve as a primary technical escalation point for complexPPCand SCADA issues.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through technical review, knowledge sharing, andstandardsreinforcement.
  • Drive standardization and process improvements to reduce commissioning effort and improve system consistency across projects.
  • Coordinate with customers and field technicians for on‑site commissioning and installation support.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams where necessary to support the SCADA system integration
  • Provide regular project status updates and risk assessments, proactively identifying and mitigating technical and schedule risks to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Promote a collaborative,team-firstculture by approaching challenges with asolution-orientedmindsetthat emphasizes enablement over barriers.
  • Operate effectively in ambiguous problem spaces to define technical direction and guide solution development.
  • Promote and adhere to a culture of NERC compliance and governance with respect to programming and commissioning standards, documentation, reporting, knowledge transfer and training.
  • Support operations and asset management teams during project handoff, ensuring seamless transition, operational readiness, and long‑term system reliability.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance system performance, reduce commissioning time, and standardize solutions across projects.

Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements
  • Engineering degree inelectrical, mechanical or energyengineering is preferred.
  • 6-8yearsof engineering experience or equivalent (experience working within renewable energyincluding;industrial or utility scale PV solar, BESS or Winddesired). Direct experience in SCADA engineering.
  • Advancedworking knowledgeofprogramming languages including but not limited to; C, C++, Java, Python, Structured Text (IEC61131-3).
  • Advancedworking knowledge of Inductive Automation’s IgnitionSCADA platformor other equivalent SCADA platform(s).
  • Advancedworking knowledge of Windows servers,relational databases, and SCADA applications.
  • Advancedworking knowledge of industry recognizedPLC equipment including but not limited to Schweitzer Engineering RTAC Platform, Allen Bradley Control / CompactLogix platform, GE / Emerson RX3i, or similar "named variable" PLC environments.
  • Advanced working knowledge of tuning PID loops.
  • Advancedworking knowledgeof design, installation and commissioning of SCADA networksusing;Fiber Optics, Serial RS-232 / RS-485, and Ethernet TCP/IP.
  • Advancedworking knowledgeof industrial automation protocols including but not limited to; Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA and DA.
  • Advancedworking knowledgereading and developing diagrams and schematics including but not limited to, powersystem, networking and control, electrical,mechanicaland civil layouts.
  • Advancedworking knowledge of power plant operating proceduresand control system interaction with governing bodies such as: Regional Compliance Entities, Independent System Operators, Transmission Operators, and Generator Operators.
  • Ability to work with sub-contractors and field personnel.
  • Proficiencywith various project management, scheduling, and task management tools.
  • Excellentcommunicationskills.
