Job summary

SOLV Energy is seeking a Senior SCADA Engineer, EPC, to lead SCADA and PPC workstreams for the SOLV OTS SCADA solution on utility-scale PV and battery storage projects. The role allows fully remote or hybrid work with regular in-office presence in Bend, OR, with details discussed during interview.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree preferred.
  • 6–8 years of engineering experience including renewable energy.
  • Direct SCADA engineering experience required.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (C, C++, Java, Python, IEC61131-3).
  • Deep knowledge of Ignition SCADA or similar platforms.
  • Strong Windows servers, databases, and SCADA applications experience.
  • Familiarity with PLC platforms such as RTAC, AB, GE/Emerson RX3i.
  • Experience with Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA.
  • Ability to coordinate with subcontractors and field personnel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and commissioning of SCADA and PPC systems for utility-scale PV and storage projects.
  • Define and implement SCADA design standards and best practices.
  • Own end-to-end PPC implementation including programming, integration, testing, and acceptance.
  • Generate and maintain project documentation (SAT reports, narratives, device lists, training materials).
  • Provide expert technical support for diverse SCADA configurations and serve as escalation point.

  • Drive standardization and process improvements to reduce commissioning time and improve consistency.
  • Coordinate with customers and field technicians for on-site commissioning and installation support.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams for system integration.
  • Provide status updates and risk assessments to ensure on-time delivery.

Job Description Summary:

The Senior SCADA Engineer, EPC will lead and execute SCADA and PPC engineering workstreams for the design, development, and delivery of the SOLV OTS SCADA solution on utility‑scale PV and BESS projects.

Position Responsibilities and Duties
  • Lead the development and commissioning of SCADA monitoring and control systems for utility‑scale renewable energy projects, including Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Define and implement SCADA design standards and best practices aligned with company objectives.
  • Own end‑to‑end PPC implementation on assigned projects, including programming, hardware/software integration, factory acceptance testing, and site acceptance testing to meet ISO, utility, and customer requirements.
  • Generate and maintain project documentation including SAT reports, plant control narratives, device points list, and training material while adhering to defined company standards.
  • Provide expert level technical support for diverse SCADA equipment configurations.
  • Serve as a primary technical escalation point for complex PPC and SCADA issues.
  • Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers through technical review, knowledge sharing, and standards reinforcement.
  • Drive standardization and process improvements to reduce commissioning effort and improve system consistency across projects.
  • Coordinate with customers and field technicians for on‑site commissioning and installation support.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams where necessary to support the SCADA system integration.
  • Provide regular project status updates and risk assessments, proactively identifying and mitigating technical and schedule risks to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Promote a collaborative, team‑first culture by approaching challenges with a solution‑oriented mindset that emphasizes enablement over barriers.
  • Operate effectively in ambiguous problem spaces to define technical direction and guide solution development.
  • Promote and adhere to a culture of NERC compliance and governance with respect to programming and commissioning standards, documentation, reporting, knowledge transfer and training.
  • Support operations and asset management teams during project handoff, ensuring seamless transition, operational readiness, and long‑term system reliability.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance system performance, reduce commissioning time, and standardize solutions across projects.

  • SCADA and PPC designs, programming, and commissioning activities meet established quality and performance standards.
  • SCADA configuration and testing activities comply with utility, NERC, and SOLV standards.

  • Assigned SCADA design, programming, and commissioning tasks are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Understanding of and adherence to safety and quality procedures and practices.
  • Professional technical skills and industry knowledge continue to develop over time.

  • Positive feedback is received from project teams, field personnel, and stakeholders.
  • Communication and data integration issues are resolved with independence.
  • Effective utilization of project management, scheduling, and task management tools.
Minimum Skills or Experience Requirements
  • Engineering degree in electrical, mechanical or energy engineering is preferred.
  • 6‑8 years of engineering experience or equivalent, including renewable energy experience (industrial or utility‑scale PV solar, BESS or wind desired). Direct experience in SCADA engineering.
  • Advanced working knowledge of programming languages including but not limited to C, C++, Java, Python, Structured Text (IEC61131‑3).
  • Advanced working knowledge of Inductive Automation’s Ignition SCADA platform or other equivalent SCADA platform(s).
  • Advanced working knowledge of Windows servers, relational databases, and SCADA applications.
  • Advanced working knowledge of industry recognized PLC equipment including but not limited to Schweitzer Engineering RTAC Platform, Allen Bradley Control / CompactLogix platform, GE / Emerson RX3i, or similar “named variable” PLC environments.
  • Advanced working knowledge of tuning PID loops.
  • Advanced working knowledge of design, installation and commissioning of SCADA networks using fiber optics, serial RS‑232 / RS‑485, and Ethernet TCP/IP.
  • Advanced working knowledge of industrial automation protocols including but not limited to Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, OPC UA and DA.
  • Advanced working knowledge of reading and developing diagrams and schematics including but not limited to power system, networking and control, electrical, mechanical and civil layouts.
  • Advanced working knowledge of power plant operating procedures and control system interaction with governing bodies such as regional compliance entities, independent system operators, transmission operators, and generator operators.
  • Ability to work with subcontractors and field personnel.
  • Proficiency with various project management, scheduling, and task management tools.
  • Excellent communication skills.
