Job summary

SpaceX is seeking a Sr. Design Criteria Engineer (Starshield) in Hawthorne, CA, to own design criteria and verification for satellite systems.

You will work on design maturation, testing, and operations in orbit, collaborating with teams across electrical, mechanical, and RF disciplines. This role emphasizes rigorous design improvements, risk mitigation, and effective stakeholder engagement in a fast-paced startup-like environment within SpaceX’s Starshield program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field required.
• 5+ years engineering experience in a role (design, analysis, test, or manufacturing) preferred.
• Experience with aircraft, launch vehicles, spacecraft, or similar aerospace systems.
• Experience with electrical or mechanical design, analysis, testing, and fabrication for safety-critical/high-rate manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Develop and own design criteria, requirements, and verification approaches for new satellite systems.
• Perform peer review of hardware designs and test campaigns and approve plans for launch readiness.
• Guide engineers through SpaceX design processes and ensure criteria are followed across design, manufacturing and test activities.
• Provide analysis or test recommendations across electrical, structural, and RF systems.
• Develop tools for design, analysis, and milestone tracking.
