Job description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Come work at Amazon!

Key job responsibilities
  1. Define Customer Terminal (CT) systems architectures and specifications.
  2. Design tradeoffs of various CT architectures including RF and performance simulation to support tradeoff decisions.
  3. Develop integration & test Software & Firmware for lab verification measurements.
  4. Develop, maintain, and support customer terminal validation hardware.
  5. Engage proactively with internal and external development partners on Systems' hardware and software architectures and implementation.
  6. Ensure delivered work meets technical, functional, performance, regulatory, and business requirements.
  7. Perform in-field test and validation of various CT architectures.
  8. Travel up to 20% depending on project phases.
Export Control Requirement

Candidates must be U.S. citizens or nationals, U.S. permanent residents (Green Card holders), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as refugees or granted asylum, due to export control laws.

A day in the life

As a Satellite Terminal Validation Engineer, you will work daily with electrical hardware, RF, antenna, silicon, product design engineers, and the Operations team. Your focus will be on architecting, integrating, and verifying customer terminal performance to delight our customers.

About the team

The Kuiper Customer Terminal team develops outdoor & indoor devices to enable customer internet service via the Kuiper satellite network, managing the entire process from prototypes to mass production, including requirements, architecture, hardware development, and testing.

Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years programming experience in at least one modern language (C++, C#, Java, Python, Matlab, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby).
  • 5+ years deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • 5+ years in systems design, software development, operations, automation, and process improvement.
  • Experience leading the design, build, and deployment of complex, reliable, and scalable software solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 5+ years in SW/HW development with at least 3 recent years in an architectural/system role.
  • 5+ years experience in telecommunication, high-speed digital, antenna, or satellite communication systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of engineering practices for full software/hardware/network development lifecycle.
  • Experience with mobility satellite terminals (maritime, aeronautical).
  • Experience with LabView and Matlab.
  • Leadership in building complex software or infrastructure delivered to customers.
  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering.
  • Familiarity with satellite communication theory, phased array designs, and over-the-air field-trials.
  • Debugging skills from RF front-end to baseband systems.
