Job summary

Best Friends Animal Society is seeking a Lead Veterinarian to guide the Sanctuary veterinary team, ensuring consistent, high-quality care for all program animals in alignment with organizational standards. You will oversee shelter medicine, wellness, emergency care, and high-volume spay/neuter surgeries while supporting lifesaving strategies.

The role requires a DVM with licensure, 5+ years of practice, and strong leadership.

Qualifications

• DVM required with license in good standing; at least 5 years as a practicing veterinarian.
• Experience in shelter medicine or related field is preferred.
• Ability to lead a veterinary team and collaborate across departments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Sanctuary veterinary team and ensure care aligns with Best Friends standards.
• Oversee examination, diagnosis, and treatment of program animals and high-volume spay/neuter surgeries.
• Provide on-call support, mentorship, and coordination with shelters and clinics.
• Support regional/national strategies to advance no-kill goals by 2025.
