Job summary

The American Psychological Association seeks a Senior Salesforce Developer to partner with business units, translate needs into scalable Apex, Lightning Web Components, and Flows, and deliver solutions via Jira and Copado. You will guide stakeholders, design maintainable architectures, mentor peers, and support production incidents while aligning with APA's remote work policy and governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/IS/Engineering or related field or equivalent professional experience.
• 6+ years Salesforce development, with at least 3 years in a senior/lead role.
• Proven experience delivering in a large, multi-team Salesforce org with legacy customization, managed packages, and integrations.
• Demonstrated ability to run requirements sessions directly with non-technical stakeholders and translate them into delivered solutions.
• Track record of guiding stakeholders away from requests that do not fit the platform toward simpler, maintainable alternatives.
• Strong written communication, including user stories, acceptance criteria, design notes, and incident summaries.
• Experience working in an Agile team with peer code review and shared development standards.
• Experience in association or nonprofit environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead discovery sessions with business units and end users to identify the real need behind each request.
• Recommend solutions that fit the APA Salesforce Platform, favoring existing functionality over net-new builds, and explain trade-offs in plain language.
• Translate requirements into Jira user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
• Choose between declarative and programmatic approaches for each requirement.
• Assess impact of changes on existing automation, managed packages, security, and integrations before building.
• Lead discovery spikes on legacy or unfamiliar areas of the org and document findings.
• Design, build, test, and deploy bulk-safe Apex, Lightning Web Components, and Flows.
• Deliver changes through Copado pipeline across development, SIT, QA/UAT, and Production.
• Investigate and resolve production incidents, identifying root cause and implementing lasting fixes.
• Review other developers’ code and user stories before promotion.
• Retire dead code, obsolete automation, and unused metadata safely with dependency checks across environments.
• Mentor junior developers and administrators, and contribute to team standards and runbooks.
