Role Summary

The Senior Safety Specialist will coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine and complex construction projects. This position will be responsible for conducting safety inspections, identifying and documenting abatement of hazardous conditions, writing reports, and performing trend analysis. All activities will support the strategy, vision, and values of JE Dunn.

Autonomy & Decision-Making

Makes decisions on assigned areas of responsibility, provides recommendations to supervisor, and refers all exceptions to supervisor as needed.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core
  • Coordinates and implements the field safety program for routine construction projects.
  • Conducts regular walk-through inspections of construction sites to ensure compliance with laws and company policies.
  • Conducts safety audits on assigned projects, identifies, documents, and recommends abatement of hazardous conditions, and utilizes safety management systems to track findings and closures.
  • Conducts project-specific new hire orientations and oversees drug and alcohol policy compliance.
  • Monitors the implementation of prime contractor and subcontractors' safety programs.
  • Participates in project meetings to discuss safety matters and supports safety program implementation.
  • Assists in investigating project-related accidents, determining root causes, and recommending process changes.
  • Coordinates with injured employees and clinics to ensure timely treatment and return to work, and compiles injury reports.
  • Monitors site safety incentive programs.

  • Possess advanced safety knowledge, identify complex hazards, and provide solutions.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of equipment, laws, and work processes to safety recommendations.
  • Contribute actively in meetings and communicate effectively.
  • Use safety management systems for trend analysis and recommend mitigations.
  • Provide guidance and training on safety topics.
  • Assist during insurance audits.
  • Oversee complex projects and manage controlled insurance program projects.
  • Develop and implement training strategies, analyze training needs, and enhance training programs.
  • Monitor safety metrics and lead training sessions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Perform work accurately and timely.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and safety software.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and hazard testing protocols.
  • Ability to recognize hazards and build relationships.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in safety and health-related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years construction safety experience required.
Working Environment
  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required.
