Job summary

Bollinger Shipyards, Inc. in Metairie, LA is seeking a Safety Manager with 7+ years of progressive safety experience in manufacturing or shipbuilding to lead the company’s safety programs across facilities and drive a culture of safety and regulatory compliance.

You will coach the safety team, conduct risk assessments and incident investigations, partner with operations to mitigate hazards, and implement robust safety management systems that protect workers and strengthen engagement.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive safety experience in manufacturing, shipbuilding, heavy industrial, construction, or related environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
• Prior leadership experience managing direct report employees required.
• Previous experience leading and developing company-wide safety programs across multiple locations required.
• Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and maritime industry safety practices.
• Experience conducting incident investigations, risk assessments, and safety audits.
• Professional certifications (CSP, ASP, CIH or similar) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop Safety professionals, fostering a strong culture of engagement and continuous improvement
• Interpret, communicate, and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, regulatory guidance, and industry best practices
• Develop, implement, and continuously enhance safety management systems, policies, standards, and procedures
• Lead and oversee incident investigations, identify root causes, and ensure timely implementation of corrective and preventive actions
• Analyze injury, incident, near miss, and inspection data to identify trends, mitigate systemic risks, and drive continuous improvements
• Partner with operations and cross-functional teams to proactively conduct risk assessments, identify workplace hazards, and implement effective risk mitigation strategies
• Direct workplace audits, inspections, and behavioral safety observations to strengthen compliance and improve overall safety performance
• Manage and enhance the Industrial Hygiene program through assessments, workplace monitoring, and evaluations
• Develop and oversee safety training programs that build employee capability and reinforce safe work practices
• Monitor, analyze, and report key safety performance metrics, providing actionable insights and recommendations to leadership
• Support Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental (QHSE) initiatives and lead improvement efforts
