Job summary

The Senior Safety Engineer will own and drive the safety program for our semiconductor fab in the Center for Quantum Computing, owning safety across all clean room operations from chemical handling to tool interlocks. You will partner with process and facilities teams to embed a scalable safety culture that enables rapid innovation and production throughput.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in EHS or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations.
• Knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910 regulations.
• 3+ years of safety standards experience.
• Bachelor's degree in safety/engineering field.
• Experience conducting safety assessments (JHAs, PHAs, MOC) in manufacturing or lab.
• Experience developing and delivering safety training programs.
• 5+ years in semiconductor fabrication or clean room environments.

Responsibilities

• Own the Clean Room Safety Program: Develop and continuously improve the EHS program across fab operations — CVD, PVD, etch, wet chemistry, lithography, and metrology.
• Chemical & Hazardous Materials Management: Manage chemical hygiene plans, hazardous gas monitoring, and inventory controls for corrosives and gases.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 318/70E, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and local fire codes.
• Risk Assessment: Conduct JHAs, PHAs, and MOC reviews for new tools and process changes.
• Emergency Response: Develop and drill emergency procedures for chemical spills, gas leaks, fire, and seismic events.
• Tool & Equipment Safety: Partner with equipment engineers on safety interlocks, LOTO, and safety of gas cabinets and exhaust systems.
• Training & Culture: Deliver safety training and foster proactive hazard reporting.
• Incident Management & Metrics: Lead RCA for incidents and near-misses; report safety KPIs.
• Contractor Safety: Manage safety requirements for vendors and contractors.
