Job summary

NVIDIA is hiring a Senior Compiler Engineer to advance Rust-to-GPU compilation, building custom IRs and backends to target CUDA PTX and machine code. You’ll work on MLIR/LLVM-based pipelines, GPU-specific optimizations, and safe parallel abstractions, enabling high-performance, memory-safe GPU kernels.

Join a team focused on state-of-the-art compiler tooling, JIT/AOT workflows, and cross-functional collaboration to push the boundaries of accelerated computing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of compiler development, language design, or GPU code generation experience.
  • Deep expertise in Rust, including rustc, MIR, procedural macros, and borrow-checker/lifetime model.
  • Hands-on experience with compiler infrastructures, IRs, and code generation (LLVM IR, MLIR, or custom IRs).
  • Solid understanding of parallel programming models, GPU architectures, and CUDA programming.
  • Strong software design skills, including debugging, profiling, and benchmarking compilers and GPU kernels.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional collaboration for architecture, development, testing, code review, and issue triage.
  • Ability to work independently, define project goals and scope, and drive compiler-engineering efforts from research to production.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain Rust-to-GPU compiler backends and Rust-native IR frameworks for CUDA PTX and machine code.
  • Develop compiler IRs and optimizers, lowering Rust AST/MIR into IRs like MLIR, PTX, and LLVM with GPU-focused optimizations.
  • Support ahead-of-time, JIT, and link-time optimization workflows across NVIDIA GPUs and host platforms.
  • Architect safe parallel abstractions to extend Rust ownership and lifetime across the GPU launch boundary.
  • Expose type-safe, ergonomic device-side abstractions for shared memory, barriers, and warp/cluster-level ops.
  • Contribute to building composable building blocks for future AI and HPC applications.
