Job summary

Apptronik, a human-centered robotics company in Austin, TX, seeks a Senior Software Engineer – Wheeled Controls to advance high-performance motion control for mobile manipulation. You will design state-estimation and control algorithms, integrate wheel base with arm dynamics, and deploy production-grade software for safety-critical robotics.

Qualifications

Deep understanding of classical and modern control theory for whole-body loco-manipulation.
Strong experience with Kalman filtering and sensor fusion (IMU, encoders, LiDAR).
Proficient in modern C++ (14/17/20) for real-time systems.
Experience with real-time middleware and communication.
Proven track record taking wheeled-base platforms to market or deployment in industry.

Responsibilities

Design and tune whole-body controllers coordinating wheeled base motion with upper-body manipulation.
Develop low-level interfaces between planning stacks and wheel/arm actuators with deterministic performance.
Drive productization and safety through safety-rated features and standards compliance (ISO 13849, ISO 10218, ANSI/RIA R15.08).
Coordinate with perception and autonomy teams to integrate mobile manipulation planners.
Refine sensor fusion for robust odometry across diverse environments.
Lead testing and validation of motion-control performance across floors, inclines, payloads.
Maintain production-grade, real-time C++ code and documentation for the controls architecture.
