Job summary

FieldAI in Irvine is seeking an accomplished software platform engineer to shape the runtime of foundation models across embodied robotics. You will define interfaces, drive architecture, and push performance from edge devices to the cloud on diverse hardware.

You will collaborate with autonomy, hardware, simulation, and deployment teams to translate cross-cutting requirements into durable, scalable systems, while writing designs and mentoring the team.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in CS, Robotics, EE or related OR equivalent hands-on experience.
• 8+ years in production robotics or systems software with platform/infrastructure ownership.
• Experience designing distributed robotic systems with multiple agents and fault tolerance.
• Deep ROS 2 and middleware expertise beyond application level.
• Robot capability and intent modeling experience.
• API and abstraction design with versioned interfaces and SDKs.

Responsibilities

• Architect the software platform for physical AI across robots.
• Define interfaces and contracts between major subsystems with versioned APIs.
• Design robot capability/state/intent abstractions for dashboards and planners.
• Develop mechanisms to discover and track robot capabilities as hardware evolves.
• Drive abstractions decoupling intelligence from robots and compute platforms.
• Own platform performance end-to-end including real-time execution and cloud connectivity.
• Build middleware and runtime infrastructure for high-bandwidth data and commands.
• Develop profiling, tracing, benchmarking for system behavior across sim and hardware.
• Collaborate with autonomy, hardware, simulation, infra, product and deployment teams.
• Set technical direction for FieldAI platform engineering and mentorship.
