Job summary

Valstad is leading a bold effort to rebuild ship manufacturing by integrating robotics, AI, and automation on- site in Austin. The Robotics Software Engineer will own the full planning pipeline, transforming CAD data into executable robot trajectories, with emphasis on motion planning, kinematics, and robust execution on industrial hardware.

You’ll work across planning, calibration, simulation, and real hardware integration, applying Rust/C++ and cutting-edge frameworks.

Qualifications

Five or more years of professional experience developing robotics software, motion-planning systems or manipulation algorithms.
Strong C++/Rust software-development skills.
Solid knowledge of linear algebra and 3D geometry.
Experience with forward and inverse kinematics.
Experience with Linux development environments, CMake and Git.
Willingness to work on-site with physical robotic systems.

Responsibilities

Develop motion-planning systems for industrial manipulators performing welding and handling.
Convert CAD-derived paths into feasible robot trajectories.
Generate constrained Cartesian paths with tool-orientation control.
Coordinate motion across manipulators, rails and external axes.
Implement collision detection and continuous collision checking.
Validate that planned trajectories execute on real hardware.
