Job Responsibility:
As a Senior Robotics Engineer for John Deere's Turf and Compact Utility Advanced Research & Development (T&CU AR&D) located in Cary, N.C., you will….
- Lead the development and implementation of advanced perception algorithms for Turf and Compact Utility robotics applications, with a focus on sensor fusion, object recognition, and environmental understanding.
- Drive the research and development efforts in Autonomy algorithms and technologies tailored to the specific needs of Turf and Compact Utility (T&CU) equipment, including facilitating robust positioning and mapping capabilities in challenging outdoor environments.
Additionally, you will
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate autonomy technology into T&CU products, contributing to the advancement of intelligent and efficient equipment operation.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, academic advancements, and emerging technologies in robotics, perception, localization, and leverage this knowledge to drive continuous innovation within the organization.
- Participate in the creation of technical documentation, including specifications, design documents, and test plans, to ensure clear communication and knowledge transfer within the team.
What Skills You Need
- Demonstrated experience in robotics development, with a strong track record of applying these technologies in real-world robotics applications.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Python, and/or ROS, and experience with libraries and frameworks commonly used in perception and SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) development.
- Strong understanding of sensor technologies (e.g., LiDAR, cameras, IMUs) and their integration for robust perception and mapping in outdoor environments.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, both internally and externally.
What Makes You Stand Out
- Experience in perception and SLAM algorithms and systems.
- A Master or PhD degree in Robotics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on perception, computer vision, SLAM, or autonomous systems.
- Proven ability to lead and mentor cross-functional teams, driving collaborative research and development initiatives to achieve ambitious technical goals.
- Experience with model-based control system development and controls.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, Software, or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering with a Computer Science minor, or equivalent.
