Job summary

Viable Engineering Solutions is seeking a Senior Robotics Controls Engineer to lead controls for robotic automation from concept to commissioning in Orlando, FL. You will define problems, decompose work, and mentor the team while remaining hands-on with cell layout, cycle time, safety, and system integration.

The role requires expert FANUC programming, ROBOGUIDE proficiency, and strong experience in vision, PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networks.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Robotics or related field.
9+ years of industrial robotics or automation experience, with leadership in robot integration.
Expert-level FANUC programming with at least one other robot platform.
Deep experience with FANUC ROBOGUIDE for cell layout and cycle-time studies.
Strong understanding of robot kinematics, frames, and payloads.
Experience leading vision integration with Cognex/Keyence.
Track record defining the control architecture between robots, PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networks (EtherNet/IP/PROFINET).
PLC programming experience on Rockwell or Siemens platforms.
Ability to read electrical schematics and I/O drawings.
Led the controls on at least two delivered robotic cells.
Experience leading a small team, task delegation, and design reviews.
Experience developing controls effort estimates from technical scope and risk.

Responsibilities

Lead controls technical lead for robotic automation from feasibility through deployment.
Define controls problems and break scope into well-scoped tasks; assign and track progress.
Serve as the primary controls consultant for the project team and guide colleagues.
Develop controls effort estimates for projects and proposals; flag changes early.
Define the robot program architecture and reusable routines; set project conventions.
Lead cell layout and robot selection studies in FANUC ROBOGUIDE; validate reach/cycle time.
Define the control architecture and signal handshakes between robots, PLCs, HMIs, vision, conveyors.
Lead multi-robot and external-axis cells, including interference zones and coordinated motion.
Lead vision and sensor integration with Cognex/Keyence for 2D/3D guidance.
Own the controls side of cell safety including Fanuc DCS and safety I/O.
Drive cell reliability, fault handling, and fast diagnostics; on-site commissioning.
Mentor team through design reviews and integration problem solving.
