Job summary

Aurelius Systems in San Francisco is seeking a senior robotics controls engineer to own the precision pointing and tracking control loops, the associated state estimation, and the closed-loop integration with the tracker. You will iterate on real hardware, push the limits of resonant and nonlinear dynamics, and drive the controls pipeline from model to field.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of robotics experience required.
• Proven fundamentals in controls, state estimation, and MPC.
• Experience with real hardware and sim-to-real optimization.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and tuning of precision pointing and tracking control loops.
• Maintain closed-loop tracking from sensor input to actuator command at high Hz.
• Develop state estimation across IMU, encoder, and vision feedback (Kalman filters).
• Model and identify dynamics of gimbal, mount, and actuators.
• Tune actuators, apply gain scheduling and nonlinearity compensation.
• Build simulation infrastructure and hardware-in-the-loop testing for controls validation.
• Characterize system with real targets and document tuning standards.
