Job summary

Universal Logistics Holdings is seeking an Industrial Robotics Engineer to develop and launch automation across its Warren, MI operations. You will work with robotic cells, end-of-arm tooling, machine vision, and PLCs to deliver safer, higher-quality processes from concept through production ramp-up.

The role requires a technical bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years in manufacturing automation, with travel as needed and collaboration across Operations, Controls, IT, Safety, Quality,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field required.
• 2+ years in manufacturing engineering, automation engineering, robotics integration, controls, or equipment launch in manufacturing/logistics.
• Experience with robot cells, PLCs/controls, machine vision, sensors, and safety systems.
• Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and specifications.
• Travel and non-standard hours during critical installation/production phases.

Responsibilities

• Develop industrial and collaborative robotic concepts and processes.
• Conduct feasibility, cycle-time, capacity, layout, and risk studies for automation.
• Define requirements, RFQs, and SOWs for robotic cells (tooling, fixtures, vision, safety).
• Manage automation projects with integrators from concept to production ramp-up.
• Coordinate timing, cost, scope, risks, and deliverables across teams.
• Serve as engineering liaison between customers and cross-functional teams.
• Lead design reviews, FMEA, risk assessments, and site readiness planning.
• Support robot/cobot programming, PLC/HMI integration, machine vision, sensors, and tooling.
• Troubleshoot equipment and validate safety, quality, and throughput.
• Develop training, spare-parts, maintenance requirements, and lessons learned.
