At ms consultants, we are looking for a dynamic and experienced Roadway Engineer to join our North Carolina Transportation Group. If you're passionate about shaping the future of transportation infrastructure and ready to work on impactful projects, this is the opportunity you've been waiting for!

As a family‑owned company, we understand that our people are our most valuable asset. Whether you're working on major interstate systems or enhancing local roads, you’ll play a key role in creating smarter cities and more connected communities.

At ms consultants, inc., we provide comprehensive transportation engineering services for projects of all sizes — from major interstate systems to local roads. Our services include roadway and intersection design, corridor improvements, bridge replacement and rehabilitation, and environmental documentation. Our expert team of engineers works closely together to deliver innovative, cost‑effective, and sustainable transportation solutions that benefit communities and enhance infrastructure across the regions.

What You’ll Do:

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to design complex interstate geometrics and local road projects. Depending on your experience, you may also lead a design team, with both immediate and long‑term growth potential.

  • Roadway Design: Take charge of the design and plan preparation for both highway and local road projects.
  • Quality Assurance: Lead internal quality reviews to ensure that plans meet the highest technical standards.
  • Mentorship: Provide guidance and feedback to junior engineers, helping them grow professionally.
  • Proposal Development: Assist in preparing and negotiating project fee proposals.
  • Project Scheduling and Budgeting: Prepare design schedules, construction cost estimates, and deliver staged project submittals on time and within budget.
  • Client Interaction: Build and maintain strong client relationships through presentations and regular communication.
  • Scope and Change Management: Recognize scope changes and assist with contract negotiations when necessary.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with a talented team of engineers, technicians, and administrative staff to successfully execute transportation projects.
What You’ll Bring:

We are looking for an experienced engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment and has the technical and leadership skills to drive success. The ideal candidate will have:

Education and Experience
  • BS in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited College or University
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license in North Carolina is required, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months.
  • Proficiency in the design, preparation, and delivery of roadway design plans (NCDOT design experience preferred).
Skills & Knowledge
  • Familiarity with AASHTO, FHWA, and NCDOT standards.
  • Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and AutoCAD.
  • Prior experience managing projects, including developing proposals and overseeing project timelines and budgets.
  • A background in mentoring or managing teams, with the ability to collaborate effectively and independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with clients and team members alike.
Benefits

We are proud to be an award‑winning engineering, architecture, planning and environmental consulting firm. As a member of the ms team, we provide a career path with opportunities for advancement at any level of your career and support for licensure, certifications, and further education. We offer a robust benefits package with options for health coverage, life insurance, disability, long‑term care, and more. Our comprehensive 401(k) plan with company matching contributions supports your future from hire to retire. We also provide paid time off, flexible work schedules, and a hybrid work option.
