Job summary

GFT is seeking an experienced Senior Resident Engineer - Roadway to join our Construction Services team in Hartford, CT. This is a full-time, onsite opportunity to lead roadway-related transportation projects, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency in the field.

You will manage inspection teams, coordinate with contractors, review pay estimates, and oversee documentation, testing, and closeout activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
• PE license (Connecticut preferred) or equivalent.
• NICET Level IV certification
• Meets ASCE Grade V
• Minimum 15 years of relevant construction inspection/management experience
• Prior CTDOT or regional transportation agency experience preferred
• OSHA 30-hour certification
• Working knowledge of PMPs/PMGs preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering plans, specifications, and construction schedules
• Physically able to work in the field including outdoors and at heights

Responsibilities

• Provide Quality Assurance and technical guidance
• Review/Approve monthly pay estimates with Contractors
• Prepare/Review correspondence to and from the Contractors and owner
• Schedule and oversee testing agencies
• Oversee maintenance of project records
• Facilitate response to contractor RFIs
• Coordinate equipment and facility start-up activities
• Conduct and/or facilitate construction meetings
• Coordinate and manage inspectors and on-site personnel
• Prepare/Review change order documents
• Assist Document Control staff with Contractor schedule compliance
• Prepare progress reports Prepare Substantial and Final Completion documents
