Job summary

Rinker Design Associates (RDA) is seeking a Senior Roadway Engineer to lead the design and delivery of roadway projects within our Transportation team. You will mentor junior staff, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute to safe and sustainable transportation solutions in Virginia and beyond.

The role requires a PE license (or eligibility by reciprocity), 7–12 years of roadway design experience, and proficiency with MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 7–12 years of roadway design experience, preferably on VDOT and municipal projects.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain Virginia licensure through reciprocity.
• Proficiency with MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer.
• Strong understanding of VDOT Road Design Manual, AASHTO standards, MUTCD.
• Experience preparing roadway plans, quantities, and construction documents.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and collaborate in a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of roadway design plans for transportation projects.
• Prepare and review plans, specifications, quantities, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with project managers, clients, subconsultants, and regulators.
• Ensure designs comply with standards (VDOT, AASHTO, MUTCD).
• Utilize MicroStation and OpenRoads Designer for design documents.
• Support project schedules, budgets, and QC efforts.
• Collaborate with traffic, drainage, structures, and environmental teams.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers.
• Assist with proposal preparation and project pursuits.
